Questions

What is a split sheet?
A short agreement, signed by everyone who wrote a song, that says who owns what share of it. Publishers and collecting societies use it to pay the right people.
When should we fill in a split sheet?
On the day the song is written, while everyone is in the room and agrees. Settling shares after a release, or after a hit, is much harder.
Is this for the song or the recording?
The song (the composition). Who owns the recording (the master) and how its income is shared is agreed separately, usually with the label.
What is an IPI number?
The ID a collecting society gives each songwriter and publisher. You find it on your society account, such as PRS, ASCAP, BMI, SACEM or GEMA.
Do you keep the names we type?
No. The PDF is made on our server and sent straight back, and nothing is stored. Only if you ask for a copy by email do we send it to that address.
