Will the stores accept your cover?

Check your cover art before you upload: 3000 × 3000 pixels, square, JPEG or PNG, RGB colour, under 25 MB. It runs in your browser, and the image is never uploaded.

It is checked in your browser and never uploaded.

What we check

JPEG or PNG, square, exactly 3000 × 3000 pixels, under 25 MB, in RGB colour, with no transparent areas.

Check these by eye

  • No web addresses, social handles, QR codes or prices on the cover.
  • No store logos (Spotify, Apple Music…) and no words like “new” or “exclusive”.
  • Any artist name or title on the cover matches the release exactly.
  • Sharp, not stretched or pixelated, with nothing important cut off at the edges.
  • You own the image or have a licence to use it as a cover.

What it checks

  • In your browser

The size comes from opening the image on your device and the colour model from the file itself. Nothing is uploaded.

  • The rules that reject covers

Size, shape, file type, file size, colour model and transparency: the technical reasons stores send covers back.

  • What a person checks

Text, logos and image rights can't be checked by a machine, so they are listed for you to go through by eye.

Questions

What size should cover art be?
3000 × 3000 pixels, square. It is Apple Music's minimum and what we ask for; the stores scale it down for their apps.
Can I put text on my cover?
Yes: the artist name and the title are fine when they match the release. Web addresses, social handles, prices, store logos and words like “new” or “exclusive” get covers rejected.
Why is CMYK a problem?
CMYK is for print. Screens use RGB, and a CMYK cover can show the wrong colours or be refused.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The checks run in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
