Music distributors compared, and the white-label option for labels

DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, Amuse, Ditto, UnitedMasters, Symphonic and Stillmore Group side by side: who each one suits, how it charges and what it offers a label. Then what white-label music distribution is, and who offers it.

The short answer

  • One artist, many releases: a flat yearly subscription is usually the cheapest.
  • A label with a roster: pick for splits, statements, sub-labels, payouts and support, not for the upload price.
  • Your own distribution brand: a white-label platform gives you the technology and stores under your name.

What a label should compare

The upload price is the smallest number in a label's year. These decide whether running the roster is easy or a monthly spreadsheet:

  1. 1Splits per trackCan you pay producers, featured artists and your own share automatically, per recording?
  2. 2Statements you can readGross, fees and net by release, track, store and country, every period.
  3. 3Sub-labels and artist accountsCan your artists log in and see only their own releases and earnings?
  4. 4PayoutsWho holds the money, how often can you withdraw, and what does a withdrawal cost?
  5. 5Review before deliveryDoes a person check your metadata and artwork before the stores reject it?
  6. 6Someone to talk toWhen a release is stuck or a claim arrives, who answers, and how fast?
  7. 7LeavingCan you move your catalog with its ISRC and UPC codes and keep your streams?

White-label music distribution

White-label distribution lets a label, a management company or a new distributor offer distribution under its own brand. The provider runs delivery to the stores, catalog, royalty processing and payouts; your artists only ever see your name, logo and domain. It is how most new distribution brands start: you bring the artists and the relationship, the platform brings the technology and the store deals.

Stillmore Group

A complete label workspace under your name: delivery to the stores with human review, catalog, royalty statements, splits, wallet and payouts, artist and sub-label accounts. Your logo, colours, your own domain and sign-in page, and emails from your own domain. We stay out of sight: your sub-labels and artists never see our name.

SonoSuite

White-label distribution software for labels and distributors: you run the platform and the operations, they provide the tooling and store connections.

Revelator

Infrastructure for music businesses: catalog, rights and royalty tooling with white-label options, aimed at companies building their own services.

FUGA

Business-to-business distribution and marketing services for labels and distributors, by application. A service partner rather than a platform you brand.

Questions labels ask us

What is white-label music distribution?

It is distribution you offer under your own brand. A white-label provider runs the delivery to Spotify, Apple Music and the other stores, the catalog, the royalty statements and the payouts, while your artists see only your name, logo and domain. Labels and new distributors use it to offer distribution without building the technology or the store relationships themselves.

Which music distributor is best for a record label?

Look past the price of one upload. A label needs sub-labels and artist accounts, royalty splits it can set per track, clear statements by release and store, payouts it can control, and someone to call when a release is stuck. Self-serve services built for solo artists often stop at the upload; label-focused services and white-label platforms cover the rest.

Can I switch distributors without losing my streams?

Yes, if the release keeps the same ISRC codes for its recordings and the same UPC for the release, the stores can link the new delivery to the existing one, so play counts and playlist placements stay. Plan the switch so the new delivery is live before the old one is taken down.

How does Stillmore Group make money?

Through a revenue share agreed with each label in its partnership, and through monthly or yearly white-label plans. Every statement shows the gross, our share and what is yours.

Can I start my own distribution company with a white-label platform?

Yes. With a white-label platform you bring the artists and the brand; the platform brings the store delivery, review, royalty processing and payouts. With Stillmore Group you also set what your artists see, who answers their questions, and how your emails, sign-in page and documents look.
